Diara is a German-Senegalese cinematographer, based in Berlin.
Spending a lot of time in Senegal growing up, she discovered her love for photography - experimenting with light and color as a means to tell diverse realities.
After some years of working as a camera assistant on big productions like Sense 8 and watching great cinematographers bring their visions to life, she started to shoot her own projects as a freelance cinematographer, translating these tools to emphasize stories that move her.
A big focus in her work has always been to bring perspectives to light that usually don’t get enough space, to do justice to diverse skin tones and to create a safer, more intimate space on set for the people in front of the camera, which directly translates into the tenderness and genuinity that you can feel in her images.
