In 2003 Sten Mende graduated at the renowned Filmakademie Ludwigsburg, where he was able to learn from great cinematographers such as Billy Williams (Ghandi), Jost Vacano (Das Boot), and Slawomir Idziak.
After his teenage years when he spent all his pocket money on vinyl, played in bands and founded his own little record label, he followed his love for music and began shooting music videos for various national and international bands such as Franz Ferdinand, Seeed, DJ Koze, die Ärzte etc. Sten then followed some talented and young directors into the world of commercial filmmaking, working internationally for companies such as Mercedes, VW, Nivea, Canon, Telekom and UBS.
At the same time he has always enjoyed shooting movies, which have been successfully premiered and celebrated on international filmfestivals like Sundance and Berlinale. Recently he collaborated with the director Philipp Stölzl (The Physician) on a new interpretation of the Winnetou Saga. The movie "Mängelexemplar", after a best selling novel by Sarah Kuttner will be released in May 2016. Sten is living with his family in Berlin.
